Today as part of our staff training - our teamwent to Coburn Place, Susie's Place, Julian Center and Wheeler Mission's Women's Center. Everyone was so excited to go and see the other agenices. Plus getting out of the shelter and having lunch together is a great team-building exercise. Tomorrow is our last day of training so we will be going over the time-line for the shelter's expansion, having a workshop on Biblically based conflict resolution with role-playing thrown in and much more.

Which the last time our team role-played, I was the target - and our team pretended they were me. It is funny to see how others see you. Needless to say we all had a good laugh.

Great day!

Mother Teresa once said, "If I look at the mass, I will never act. If I look at the one, I will."

Yesterday a past resident was at the door. I happened to be going out and saw her - I hugged her I was so happy to see her. She had come by the shelter because it was her 4th year anniversary for coming to the shelter. She wanted to drop off a card of thanks. She had left the shelter a couple of years ago, yet remembered that we were an important reason she was living on her own with her children, attending school, and most importantly ending the cycle of violence with her generation. Now that is what I am talking about.......changed lives.

We are in our second day of staff training. We being our morning with a time of prayer, then we are doing a followup study on Frances Chen's book "Crazy Love." Today our team traveled to two other shelters, on located in Terre Haute and the other in Lafayette. I feel it is important to meet other shelter's staff and learn about what they offer. We are thankful for such great relationships with other shelters throughout our state.

Tomorrow we will be studying the various ways people communicate and how to manage conflict in an effective manner. We will also learn how important branding, outreach, and marketing are to our shelter life.

Please make sure you check out our facebook page, and the capital campaign section of our website.
