How churches can help Sheltering Wings

The vision for Sheltering Wings began in a local congregation’s food pantry, and churches have been an integral part of our operations since we opened our doors. We are particularly proud that so many churches of different denominations have joined together to ensure that we have the spiritual, volunteer, and financial support to allow us to fulfill our Christ-centered mission.

CHURCH CONNECTION COUNCIL

Domestic violence crosses all denominations, so we partner with churches from all over. Our bi-monthly meetings allow church representatives to learn about the shelter, the community, and each other. If your church is currently not a member, please call Autumn Bucy 317-386-5050 to learn how you can participate.

PRAYER PARTNERS

Churches and individuals can sign up for regular e-mails of prayer requests for our community and Sheltering Wings.

CRISIS HELP

Have you learned (or do you suspect) that a woman in your congregation is in an unsafe relationship? We provide guidance 24 hours a day. Just call us at 317-745-1496.

CHURCH LEADERSHIP TRAINING

Few pastors and lay leaders have training for the ministerial challenges related to domestic violence. Do you know the right steps to take when you suspect abuse? What should you do when a church member comes to you for help? (Couples’ counseling is rarely the right answer.) Twice a year, we host training to build understanding of how domestic violence is affecting your congregation and what you can do about it from a biblical perspective.

SERVICE PROJECTS

We provide a mission field right here in your backyard, offering opportunities for an hour, half day, or full day for your congregation, small group, Sunday school class or family.

YOUTH GROUPS

We have a fun and informative interactive workshop to help teens and parents recognize signs of unsafe dating relationships and learn how to build healthy relationships in a way that honors God.

MEMORABLE SPEAKERS

When your pastor needs a break or you want a special mission focus during offering or announcements, call upon our compelling, experienced speakers. They’re available for Sunday morning, church breakfasts, men’s and women’s meetings, and for Sunday school.

WRITTEN WORDS

We can supply interesting, educational, useful content about domestic violence for your weekly bulletins, newsletters, and website.

INFORMATION KIOSK

We’ll set up our traveling kiosk and send a representative on your day of worship and can answer questions and provide immediate help.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT

Sheltering Wings relies on the generosity of donors to power our mission of providing supportive and Christ-centered housing and services to women and children who are escaping domestic abuse.
